Successful startups & companies – Mint, Red Bull, Kissmetrics, Moz. Successful entrepreneurs – Tim Ferriss, Rand Fishkin, Neil Patel, Ramit Sethi.

What do they have in common?

I’m sure many things, but one of them is this – they’ve all mastered content marketing strategies and they MEAN it.

  • Take Mint. They presented world-class content marketing strategy and, as a result, have been able to sell to Intuit for $170 million after 3 years!
  • Or Ramit Sethi. His content is one of the most in-depth studies on the psychology of becoming an entrepreneur. Take a look at how he speaks about the true motivations of Top Performers
  • Or Rand Fishkin’s articles on Moz blog – I’ve never seen someone being so transparent while at the same time sharing so much valuable stuff. Don’t believe me? Just check out this article: Moz Returns to SEO

After realizing that, I’ve decided to put together some of the best advice on content marketing strategy.

Some of them I’ve already tried for myself, some I haven’t yet.

Anyhow, that’s why I decided to create the “Ultimate Guide to Content Marketing. 100+ Content Marketing Strategy Fundamentals, Mindsets, Tips & Tricks to help you make 2018 the best year for your business”. This article is the first part.

And without further ado, let’s begin.

Why is Content marketing so damn important?

Blogging doesn't work anymore

1. Plain blog posting doesn’t work anymore.

You see, 10 years ago, it was enough to just regularly post some articles on your blog and, with some luck, eventually it would become popular. That’s how many of internet marketing gurus became popular.

But today, the situation is different.

There are approximately 2 000 000 articles published every day. [1] Yes, 2 millions articles every. single. day.

That means that, if you want to get popular with whatever you’re creating, you have be SMART about that. You have toknow

  • what to write
  • how to write and
  • how to promote your writing.

And this is exactly what you’re going to learn throughout this series of articles.

2. Advertising is more expensive than ever

Early in the days of internet advertising, it was enough to just publish your ads, and eventually, people would come.

Now it’s different. Every year ads are becoming more and more expensive.

Advertising Gets More Expensive Try Content Marketing

So you can agree on paying more and more for less and less customers or you adapt and start finding other ways of acquiring them.

3. People are getting tired of traditional ads

Listen, average American is bombarded with 4 000 to 10 000 ads every single day. [2]

It’s normal that people are freaking tired with seeing those ads. I know I am, probably you will agree as well.

And the result is:

4. People are getting smarter about AVOIDING ads

Adblock, News Feed Eradicators etc. is just a tip of an iceberg.

Think about it – when you use Google to search for something, do you really pay close attention to the ads area in SERP? Or do you just skip through to organic results?

Most people don’t give a damn about what’s in ads area. Myself included.

Of course, some ads get clicked – otherwise, people wouldn’t use AdWords – but, as I mentioned, those ads are becoming more and more expensive.

5. You’re able to develop a deep and meaning relationship with your customers

This one is probably the most powerful reason on this whole list.

Research after research shows that people are WAY more likely to buy products offered by companies they like, and – especially – by companies that have already offered them a value of some kind. [3][4]

Why do you think that those smart SaaS companies have put so much effort into sharing really valuable stuff on their blogs? Take Kissmetrics, Hubspot, Crazy Egg – they offer amazing value on their blogs – all for free.

There’s something deeply wired in human psychology:

  1. we like people who give us stuff that we like (or that we find useful)
  2. we are much more likely to buy from those people that from total strangers

Simple as that.

Even Robert Cialdini wrote about this is his epic book, “Influence”, in the chapter about reciprocity.

6.Proper content influences your business for a loooong time

You see, when you advertise online, you spend some amount of money, get people to visit your website and that’s it. The money is gone and the people are gone. (Of course, you can turn some of them into leads, but this is basically bringing them down the funnel)

But situation with content marketing is slightly different.

After you create something remarkable and valuable to your customers, it will guarantee you a steady flow of visitors, leads & customers for a loooong, long time.

In other words, if you know how to create & promote something helpful, people will come.

Customer-centric marketing

7. 2018 will be the year of customer-focused marketing…

…and you don’t want to be left behind.

I really like to listen to people arguing about what is the next “Big Thing”.

Machine Learning!

Virtual Reality!

But what they seem not to understand is that these are only technologies – only ways to get to the end goal.

And end goal is always the same – your customer.

And in my opinion, the more “facilitators” (or, very often, simply distractions) will be out there, the more important it will be to focus on what matters most.

Not only that, people who will do just that, will be able to reap the biggest rewards.

This is not only my opinion[5].

Ok, hope that I managed to show you why I think that Content marketing is #1 way to make 2018 the best year for your business.

In the next article, I will explain what exactly I mean by saying “content marketing” and what are the main benefits of it.

Stay tuned!
